- When you have children, you are a parent.
- If you are a male parent, you are a father.
- If you are female parent, you are a mother.

- A brother and sister both have the same parents.
Una palabra colectiva para describir hermanos y hermanas es siblings. Sin embargo, esta palabra normalmente solo se usa en inglés escrito, no oralmente.

Relatives and Extended Family (Familiares)
- uncle: el hermano (o cuñado) de tu madre / padre
- aunt: la hermana (o cuñada) de tu madre / padre
- cousin: el hijo de tu tía / tío
- nephew: el hijo varón de tu hermano / hermana
- niece: la hija de tu hermano / hermana
The In-Laws (Los familiares políticos)
The In-Laws son los miembros de la familia de su cónyuge (la persona con la que está casado) o por matrimonio en su familia:
- father-in-law: el padre de su cónyuge
- mother-in-law: la madre de tu cónyuge
- son-in-law: el esposo de su hija
- daughter-in-law: la esposa de tu hijo
- brother-in-law: el esposo de tu hermana
- sister-in-law: la esposa de tu hermano
Nota: Para referirnos a más de un cuñado o cuñada, etc., tenemos que agregar una S a la palabra de brother / sister. Por ejemplo: My brothers-in-law are fun. My sisters-in-laws are crazy.
The Family Mix (La Mezcla Familiar)
Hoy en día, en muchos países, una persona puede casarse más de una vez. Estos son los términos utilizados para describir a los «nuevos» miembros de la familia cuando alguien se vuelve a casar.
«Step-» significa que estás relacionado como resultado de que uno de los padres se case nuevamente
- stepfather: the (new) husband of your mother but not your biological father
- stepmother: the (new) wife of your father but not your biological mother
- stepson: the son of your (new) husband / wife (he is not your biological son)
- stepdaughter: the daughter of your (new) husband / wife (she is not your biological daughter)
- stepsister: the daughter of your stepmother or stepfather
- stepbrother: the son of your stepmother or stepfather
