¿Qué es una contracción en el idioma inglés?
Una contracción es una forma abreviada de una palabra (o grupo de palabras) que omite ciertas letras o sonidos. En la mayoría de las contracciones, un apóstrofe representa las letras que faltan. Las contracciones más comunes se componen de verbos, auxiliares o modales adjuntos a otras palabras:

Cuando usar contractions
Las contracciones son perfectamente estándar, pero generalmente se las considera relativamente casuales. Si está escribiendo algo muy formal, es posible que desees evitar usarlas, excepto en casos como en «o’clock«, donde la frase completa «of the clock» es realmente rara.
Ain’t
Aunque desaprobado como no estándar y más común en el habla coloquial, ain’t está floreciendo en inglés americano. Se utiliza tanto en el habla como en la escritura para llamar la atención y ganar énfasis. Ain’t puede fácilmente sustituir cualquier contracción de la lista anterior. El uso de la expresión Ain’t es hasta cierto punto recomendable ya que te hace sonar más americano, sólo hay que tener cuidado en no abusarlo.
