The Subjunctive en inglés es una forma verbal especial y relativamente rara que expresa algo deseado o imaginado.
Usamos The Subjunctive principalmente cuando hablamos de eventos que no es seguro que sucedan. Por ejemplo, usamos el subjuntivo cuando hablamos de eventos que alguien:
- wants to happen
- anticipates will happen
- imagines happening
Base Subjunctive – Form of base subjunctive
La forma del subjuntivo base es extremadamente simple. Para todos los verbos y todas las personas, la forma es la base del verbo, por ejemplo: be, have, do, go, sing, work
El subjuntivo base no usa otras formas (goes, sings, works).
The subjunctive is used to emphasize urgency or importance. It used the simple form of the verb (infinitive) without the “to”. It is noticeable in only certain forms and tenses.
The Subjunctive is used after the following:

• to advise (that) • It is best (that)
• to ask (that) • It is crucial (that)
• to command (that) • It is desirable (that)
• to demand (that) • It is essential (that)
• to desire (that) • It is imperative (that)
• to insist (that) • It is important (that)
• to propose (that) • It is recommended (that)
• to recommend (that) • It is urgent (that)
• to request (that) • It is vital (that)
• to suggest (that) • It is a good idea (that)
• to urge (that) • It is bad idea (that)
Examples: (notice that the subjunctive is noticeable in he/she/it form only)
- I suggest that he practice if he wants to learn English.
- It is recommended that you join us for the business dinner.
- The company asked that employees not accept personal calls during business hours.
When using (To Be)
- It is urgent that we be at the hospital when she goes into labor.
- Mr. Smith requested that Jennifer be at tomorrow’s morning meeting.
- It is crucial that you be there before Tom arrives.
